Changing Futures
The Changing Futures project at POW began in early 2022. Our funding comes through the local Changing Futures Nottingham programme which is part of a 15 area UK wide project funded by the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities and is funded until March 2024.
POW hosts the role of the Specialist Women’s Navigator specialising in the area of violence against women and girls. This worker provides intensive one-to-one support to the women referred in to address their needs and wants. Much of this work is navigating the wider system within Nottingham to ensure they are receiving every bit of support they are entitled to. This includes accessing housing, mental health support, drug treatment, and other activities such as becoming involved with community groups.
Those referred into the Changing Futures programme have to meet a minimum of 3 of the 5 criteria for severe and multiple disadvantage (SMD). These are; homelessness, mental health issues, substance use, criminal justice system interaction, and domestic and/or sexual violence. Those referred in are then assessed to determine who makes it on to the programme.
